In 1959, during the filming of Oceans’s 11, the cast was staying at the Sands. General Manager Jack Entratter suggested that Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. join Frank Sinatra on stage during his nightly show in the Copa Room.

Initially, Frank was uncomfortable with Dean’s shtick, which he had honed working with Jerry Lewis; Sinatra’s approach was always professional and “fooling around” on stage was new to him. But as the cocktails flowed Frank quickly warmed to the horseplay and the undisciplined, joking around. Sammy became a great foil, there was no script, it was a new show every night, and the audience never knew what to expect.
Audiences loved it, and as Frank called it “The Summit” quickly became the talk of the Strip, and news quickly spread to Hollywood and New York City. It became the show to see for movie stars, high rollers, VIPs, and celebrities, and the Copa Room was packed every night. We recreate the energy of the Copa Room for this “Only in Las Vegas” show.
Once seen as a small desert town, the “Summit at the Sands” put Las Vegas on the map. The Rat Pack and Oceans 11 provided incredible publicly and portrayed Las Vegas as a fun city, the place that movie stars, entertainers, celebrities, and important people go to let their hair down.
Ocean’s 11 -- A gang of World War II 82nd Airborne veterans are recruited by their commanding officer Danny Ocean (Frank Sinatra) and Jimmy Foster (Peter Lawford) to rob five different Las Vegas casinos (Sahara, Riviera, Desert Inn, Sands, and The Flamingo) on New Years Eve.
The movie starred: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, Angie Dickinson, Cesar Romero, Richard Conte, Akim Tamiroff, Henry Silva, Ilka Chase, Norman Fell, and Buddy Lester, with cameo appearances by Shirley MacLaine, Red Skelton, and George Raft. Songs by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen, orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle.
